The committee was set up following a decision by the Prime Ministers of both countries with the aim of boosting the implementation progress of the three key projects.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed preparation work for the implementation of the three projects approved by Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe in 2006.

Currently, master plans on building the Hoa Lac high-tech zone and developing Vietnam’s traffic network supported by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are being implemented on schedule.

In 2007, the Japanese Government will grant preferential credit loans to Vietnam to help the country build beltway No.3 linking Lang Hoa Lac highway to Thanh Tri bridge, and the section between Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Long and Dau Giay of North-South expressway network. Japan will also help Vietnam train engineers and railway staff in preparation for the building of the North-South high-speed railway.
