An HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) office opened its doors in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Feb. 20.

The establishment of the office in Cam Pha town’s medical centre is a result of cooperation between the central management board of the Asian Development Bank-funded “HIV prevention in Youth” project, Quang Ninh province authorities and Marie Stopes International Vietnam.

The office aims to provide VCT services and prevent the spread of HIV by distributing free condoms and syringes.

It works with both State-run and private clinics in Cam Pha town and Van Don district in related matters, such as HIV treatment by anti retro-virals (ARV), prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission, community assistance, treatment of sexually-transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and detoxification programmes.

The VCT office is expected to meet community demand for free HIV testing, particularly among high-risk groups.
