A project to equip 64 schools nationwide with computers worth more than VND19 billion (US$1.2 million) in total will be implemented between now and 2010.

The announcement has been made by the Lawrence S. Ting Fund and the Phu My Hung joint-venture company.

As part of the programme, entitled "Advancement with Information Technology", the fund will help install 20-25 computers and a server connecting users to the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) in each targeted school. This will cost VND300 million, said Fund Director Phan Chanh Duong.

The project will be initially implemented in 19 southern cities and provinces this year.
The Lawrence S. Ting Fund was jointly set up by Taiwan's Central Trading and Development company, the Tan Thuan join-venture company, the Phu My Hung joint-venture company and a number of other companies operating in Ho Chi Minh City.
