APEC officials on September 14 reviewed their missions and outlined their duties for the coming months on health, economic technology, gender issues and emergency preparedness.

Officials from the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) Steering Committee on ECOTECH discussed measures to improve their operational activities to achieve maximum results from co-operation among APEC members.


They agreed to include issues of reforming economic structure and human security in their list of missions.

Officials of the health task force debated measures to control and prevent bird flu and HIV/AIDS in APEC member economies. They shared experiences in the application of telecommunication technology in the healthcare sector and about the concept of "e-healthcare" presented by the Republic of Korea.

They also discussed progress in the construction of a website to serve the task force.
Officials at the Gender Focal Point Network agreed with Indonesia's proposal to organise a meeting to discuss the role of women when disasters occurred. They also approved a three-year working plan for the network.
