ASEM ministers adopt Hanoi declaration
ASEM Labour and Employment Ministers have reaffirmed their political commitments to the need to adopt and implement policies for sustainable jobs in the Hanoi Declaration at their fourth conference on October 25.
In the document, the ministers also stressed the need for social security policies suitable for each country’s priorities and condition, enhance labour safety and hygiene and the improvement of corporate’ social responsibilities.
Delegates to the fourth ASEM Labour and Employment Ministers’ Conference agreed that ASEM has potentials of cooperation which need to be explored.
ASEM should increase dialogues and comprehensive cooperation between government agencies as well as with social partners in the building and implementation of policies and programmes on job creation, social security, labour safety and hygiene for sustainable and comprehensive development.
Discussions at the conference showed all the ASEM members shared an aspiration to build a peaceful, equal and better world for all people and a goodwill of cooperation and mutual respect.
The outcomes of discussions and the Hanoi Declaration will be reported to the ninth ASEM Summit which is slated for November 5-6 in Vientiane, Laos.
Vietnamese Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Welfare Pham Thi Hai Chuyen told the press following the conference that the event is a good chance for member states to exchange experience on job creation for young people and disadvantaged groups.
In Vietnam, the unemployment rate among young people is 3.8 percent, Chuyen noted, adding that the ministry’s most important tasks are to consult the Government for the early implementation of the vocational training strategy and submit to the National Assembly an employment bill.
