Nearly 200 students from Vietnam’s National Economics University and Japan’s ChuO University took part in a seminar in Hanoi on August 27 to discuss the building of a green economic corridor and ecological village.

The event marked the 125th anniversary of Japan’s ChuO University and the 10th anniversary of a cooperation agreement between the two universities.

The seminar drew experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Vietnam’s Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Education and Training.

Speeches by Japanese and Vietnamese lecturers and students focused on the ecological environment, developing an ecological village, managing solid waste in urban areas, and coping with climate change. Several scientific reports by Japanese students were based on their own surveys in Hai Duong, Ha Giang and Son La provinces.

Under the cooperation agreement between the two universities, the number of Japanese students studying and doing research at Vietnam’s National Economics University has increased by 30-40 students each year.

Speakers said this is an effective cooperation model between the two universities as it offers a good chance for Vietnamese and Japanese students to exchange views on environmental issues which has arisen in a developed economy like Japan and in a developing nation like Vietnam.

Universities’ directors said they will expand cooperation in other economic areas, organise more similar seminars and increase the exchange of their students.
