The plan aims for 20.5 hospital beds, seven physicians and one pharmacist for every 10,000 people by 2010. By 2020, 25 hospital beds and at least eight physicians and two pharmacists should be available for every 10,000 people. Most communes and wards nationwide will have their own medical stations by 2020 with 80 percent of them meeting the national standards.
Under the plan, Vietnam will establish a number of safety test centres for drugs, food and cosmetics as well as centres providing medicine tests and information in a number of regions and major cities from now to 2008. By 2010, an additional three food safety and hygiene testing centres will be built in the northern mountainous and central regions, as well as in the Mekong Delta and HCM City.
All economic sectors will be encouraged to provide health care services.
