Vietnamese TV series Chay An (Buying Justice) has been honoured with the Tokyo Drama Award at the city’s 2008 International Drama Festival.

Produced by the Vietnam Television Film Centre (VFC), the 22-episode series portrays the unfortunate reality of corruption in justice.

“This is the first time a Vietnamese series was presented at an international festival, which gave our filmmakers an opportunity to learn more about our strengths and weaknesses in the industry,” said VFC director Khai Hung at the festival.

Three other foreign series attending the festival included China’s Soldiers Sortie, Indonesia’s Searching for God and the Republic of Korea’s Golden Bride.

Founded in 2007, the International Drama Festival in Tokyo gathers more than 200 Japanese film studios with the aim of promoting the distribution of Japanese broadcast efforts overseas.

This year’s event took place from October 22-24.
