Vietnam’s first genealogy laboratory that meets regional standards was inaugurated in Hanoi on March 30. The laboratory is intended to serve sustainable agricultural, forestry and fisheries development.

The lab is fully equipped for the research of genetic codes, protein systems, and other biological information, said Science and Technology Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Thang at the inauguration ceremony.

The lab will also conduct research on congenital diseases found both at home and abroad.

The project has absorbed over VND57 billion from the State budget for purchase of high-tech instruments, which have been introduced to Vietnam for the first time.

The Biological Institute plans to upgrade the lab to meet international standards after 2010.
