Vietnamese martial artists are leading the Southeast Asia Pensak Silat championships with nine gold and three silver medals this week.

At Thanh Hoa Gymnasium in Thanh Hoa province, the national host won six gold medals out of seven finals in tanding (combat) events and three gold medals in seni (performance) events after the fourth day of competition.

Diep Ngoc Vu Minh opened for a scoop of gold medals with a hard-fought win over a strong Malaysian martial artist in the men’s 60kg category in the final, to bring home  the first gold medal.

Following Minh’s victory, Nguyen Thi Giang outsmarted another Malaysian athlete with a 3-2 win in the women’s 60kg category to add the second gold to the medal tally.

Four other gold medals were won by Ho Thi Lam Huong in the women’s 75kg event, Tran Quoc Toan in the men’s 90kg event, Nguyen Thi Yen in the women’s 70kg event and Le Si Lien in the men’s 85kg event.

All of them beat Malaysian opponents in the finals.

Only Truong Van Mao was a defeated by a Malaysian athlete in the men’s 70kg event.
