President Nguyen Minh Triet affirmed the key role of the energy industry in the process of national industrialisation and modernisation while attending a ground-breaking ceremony for the Dak Mi 4 hydro-electric power plant in central Quang Nam province on January 25.
On the occasion, President Triet extended New Year greetings to workers of the Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation (IDICO) present at the construction site, saying that many national power projects have been built to boost the country’s economic growth.

He urged IDICO to contribute to the national industrialisation and modernisation, and actively expand cooperation with the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia for mutual development.

The Dak Mi 4 hydro-electric power plant, designed to have a capacity of 220 MW, is being built at a total cost of VND4,800 billion.  When being completed, it is expected to supply about 1 billion kWh to the national grid. Its first generator group is scheduled to produce commercial electricity by 2010.

Dak Mi 4 is one of the eight hydro-electric power plants along the Vu-Gia-Thu Bon river in Quang Nam province.
