Despite being under temporary control, the development of the foot-and-mouth disease remains serious, said the National Steering for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Control at a regular meeting held in Hanoi on May 30.

From May 22-29, as many as 12,500 affected animals were detected in 78 communes of 47 districts in 20 provinces and cities from across the country. The disease has been reported in 162 districts in 39 provinces and cities nationwide.

The National Steering for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Control has asked localities to report immediately after detecting infected animals, take measures to isolate outbreaks and increase propaganda about the dangerous effects of the disease.

According to the Central Veterinary Department, NAVETCO Company has imported 800,000 doses of foot-and-mouth vaccine to help localities control the disease more effectively. The department is currently finalising a temporary process of importing and supplying foot-and-mouth vaccines in a bid to establish a national vaccine supply network.
