The Vietnamese football team has been placed in group G with the Republic of Korea (RoK), Malaysia, Myanmar, Chinese Taiwan and the Philippines for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U22 Cup qualifying round.

The draw results were announced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on February 14.

The RoK is considered a tough challenge for Vietnam although its U19 team was defeated 0-1 by Vietnam at the qualifying round of the AFC U19 Championships.

However, Vietnam, and three other ASEAN members including Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines in the group are still expected to have their own chances to enter the next stage.

Meanwhile, Thailand will have to meet the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and China in group F while Indonesia and Singapore are unlucky to face Australia and Japan in group E.

The qualifying matches are scheduled to take place from June 23-July 3.

The biannual U22 AFC Cup is held to replace the Olympic qualifying round for the Asian region, said the regional football governing body.
