Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a directive to raise the awareness and outline the responsibilities of State agencies regarding operations by the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA).

Under the Directive signed on June 18, the leaders of ministries and others at ministerial-level plus governmental agencies and the chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees are required to liaise with Party agencies and the VJA at all levels in disseminating and implementing Party Central Committee’s resolutions and instructions on the media, to ensure that the VJA can carry out its duties as a political, social and professional organisation in the new era.

They are also asked to continue institutionalising the Party’s directives and resolutions and to complete legislation on press activities in general and the VJA’s activities in particular. This will create a better environment for the VJA to fulfill its role and for journalists and members of the VJA to carry out their responsibilities and duties to the public.

The PM urged all senior officials to supply the VJA with the relevant information in line with the law, when policies and laws as well as political, socio-economic and security assignments are being drawn up to facilitate the association’s operations and encourage journalists and members of the VJA to participate in creating a public consensus for Party and State policies.

The VJA needs to work closer with State agencies to train journalists in legal knowledge, political awareness as well as professional skills and morals, consolidate the organisation and update the VJA’s operations at every level while expanding cooperation with the international press.

The Ministries of Information and Communications, Home Affairs, Finance, Planning and Investment, State agencies and People’s Committees across the country are responsible for enabling the VJA to successfully hold its 9th National Congress in the third quarter of this year.
