The Vietnam Aviation Corporation (Vietnam Airlines) is facilitating a project to replace current paper tickets with electronic tickets to reduce cost and enhance service quality.

The corporation said that the selling of electronic tickets will be carried out in mid 2007.

Passengers will book online, then receive a report informing that their booking is confirmed. At the airport, passengers will check-in on automatic machines so that aviation staff can compare.

Using electronic tickets is part of a policy to reduce cost and enhance service quality launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

According to IATA, the cost for a paper ticket is around US$10 while that for an electronic ticket is just US$1. In Vietnam, the cost for an electronic ticket is estimated at between 20-30 cent per passenger and equal to 10 percent of the cost for a paper ticket.
