Thirty houses, worth over US$130,000, have been handed over to poor households in Nam Can district in the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

Construction of these houses, each of which is more than 30m2 large, began in July 2008 with sponsorship from the Swiss Red Cross. The houses’ structure is compatible with the climate of the watery land of Ca Mau.

These houses are part of a project to help local people resettle at Ho Gui village in Tam Giang Dong commune to spare them from natural disasters at the nearby river mouths such as floods and landslides.

A total of 150 houses are being built under the project.

The Swiss Red Cross will continue to sponsor another project to build similar resettlement areas for inhabitants in Tan Thuan commune and Song Doc borough.
