The government has officially recognized the Vietnam Baptist Convention (VBC) as a registered religious organization.

Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyen The Doanh handed over a government decision to the VBC in Ho Chi Minh City on May 24, making it the second Protestant organization recognized in Vietnam.

Pastor Le Quoc Chanh, President of the VBC Executive Board, said all Baptists consider the recognition an important milestone in the VBC’s history.

Pastor Dr. Samuel James, a representative from the US Southern Baptist Convention, thanked the Vietnamese Government and described the recognition as a chance for the VBC to fully integrate into the nation through its practical contributions.

Director Doanh said the recognition will provide a foundation for the VBC to pursue its progressive religious practice, further keep itself connected to the nation, observe laws and contribute to national construction.

The VBC boasts 2,000 followers, including four pastors, who are operating in four churches in 14 cities and provinces.
