The central coastal city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa province is putting the final touches to its preparations for the Miss Universe 2008 contest being held in mid July.

The city has invested more than VND3 billion in fixing the public lighting system, upgrading roads and planting flowers and trees along the major streets and around its political and cultural centres.

One of the major tasks is to prevent social evils during the contest, particularly at tourist sites. An inspection team has been established to inspect and monitor food safety and hygiene at food shops, restaurants and hotels. The city has asked its hotels and guesthouses to make public lists of service prices, with a focus on food safety and hygiene to ensure no cases of food poisoning or epidemics occur during the event.

Nearly 200 volunteer students from Nha Trang University and Nha Trang Teachers Training College are training to serve as tour guides.
