A cloth dying and textiles factory, with an initial capacity of 2 million tonnes of fabrics per year, was inaugurated in Vientiane, Laos, on January 15, as part of a joint venture between Vietnam and Laos.

The project was undertaken by the Lao Military Logistics General Department and the Van Thu Trade and Service Company from Vietnam's central city of Da Nang to meet demand for materials to make uniforms for Lao troops.

Van Thu Trade and Service company contributed 91 percent to the US$4.5-million project.

Present at the inauguration ceremony were Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Douangchay Phitchith, and Economic and Cultural Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy Vu Dinh Tich.
