Officials of the Vietnam-Argentina Inter-governmental Committee for Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation held their second meeting in Buenos Aires from May 6 - 8.

At the two-day meeting, Vietnamese and Argentinean officials informed each other of their socio-economic situations and discussed specific measures to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, culture, education, science and technology as well as energy, oil and gas, agriculture and tourism.

The two sides agreed that the committee would hold regular conferences to boost the implementation of the signed agreements and to work out solutions for strengthening relations between the two countries.

Vietnam and Argentina’s two-way trade has risen 13 times over the past ten years, recording a turnover of US$424 million last year. Both countries are committed to boosting trade cooperation.

This year, Argentina agreed to hold numerous trade promotion activities in Vietnam including an Argentinean week in Hanoi, and various delegations going to Vietnam to seek cooperation opportunities.

Meanwhile, Vietnam will also send its trade promotion delegations to the South American country.
The two sides plan to hold many cultural activities to celebrate the millennium anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi and the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Argentina.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Argentinean Ministry of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in exploring and exploiting oil and gas and renewable energies.

They also agreed to open their third session in Hanoi by 2011.
