The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) wants to strengthen the relations with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Regional Organisation for Asia and the Pacific (ITUC – A/P) for the growth of the trade union movement in the region and in the interests of employees, says VGCL President Dang Ngoc Tung.

While receiving ITUC-A/P General Secretary Noriyuki Suzuki in Hanoi on March 6, Mr Tung briefed his guest on the VGCL’s future activities, including the on-going programme to develop 9 million trade union members and activities to raise the organisational skills of trade union officials at a grassroots level.

“The VGCL is willing to participate in all regional and international activities to be hosted by ITUC and ITUC – A/P,” said Mr Tung.

ITUC – A/P General Secretary Noriyuki Suzuki spoke highly of Vietnam’s significant socio-economic development in recent times, attributing it to the great contribution made by employees and trade union organisations.

He proposed that the two sides increase meetings and dialogue to promote cooperation and mutual understanding as well as organising regional and international trade union conferences.
