The German Government will grant EUR1.6 million to help recover the eco-system of mangrove forests in the coastal area of southern Bac Lieu province.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Astrid Klug, State Secretary and Vice Minister of Natural Resources of Germany, who had a working visit to Bac Lieu from March 11-12.

The project will be carried out from now until 2011 in Dong Hai and Hoa Binh districts and Bac Lieu township of the province.

It aims to improve the diversity of the eco-system of the coastal forests and Bac Lieu bird sanctuary, recover coastal forests and improve the living conditions of local people as well as the managerial capacity of relevant agencies.

Astrid Klug said that the German Government is very concerned about climate change, and its impact on Vietnam.
She said Bac Lieu is one of the Mekong Delta provinces which is hardest hit by the global climate change.
