A large volume of pork has been imported into Vietnam since blue-ear pig disease hit the country and is threatening the production of domestically reared pork.

Most of Vietnam’s imported pork comes from Belgium, Denmark, the US, Thailand, China and Japan.

According to the Animal Breeding Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Finance has increase the import tax on frozen pork to limit massive volumes of being imported.

In the future, Vietnam will apply more trade barriers to imports of frozen pork to ensure food hygiene and safety.
