The ratification of Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) shows Vietnam’s consistent policy of supporting disarmament, particularly nuclear disarmament, actively contributing to peace and security in the world.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dzung made the remarks on March 20 while responding to reporters’ question on the significance of Vietnam’s ratification of the treaty.

Mr Dzung said State President Tran Duc Luong signed a decision dated February 23, 2006 to ratify the treaty and on March 9, 2006, Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien signed a document pertaining to the ratification. The document was then sent to the UN Secretary General for registration.

Vietnam is one of the first countries to sign and ratify the treaty and it hopes that other countries, which have neither signed nor ratified the treaty, will do the same so that the treaty will come into effect soon.
