A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations led by its head Hoang Binh Quan paid an official visit to Singapore from November 1-4.

During the trip, Quan and Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo held talks and witnessed the signing of an agreement on a research programme for middle and high-ranking CPV officials in Singapore for the 2011-2013 period.

Quan also met with Deputy Prime Minister cum Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also Deputy Secretary General of the People’s Action Party (PAP), and other PAP leaders.

He briefed the Singaporean officials on Vietnam’s recent situation, its socio-economic achievements in 2010 and preparations for the 11th CPV National Congress.

The two sides discussed practical measures to step up the multifaceted cooperation between the two parties and nations, including relations between the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations and the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The Singaporean leaders congratulated Vietnam on its successful hosting of the 17th ASEAN Summit and related summits, adding that Vietnam has competently assumed the bloc’s chairmanship and put forth specific directions for the development of ASEAN, contributing to the enhancement of solidarity among ASEAN members and ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

While in Singapore, the CPV delegation visited several research and training institutions, including the Institute of Public Administration and Management, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.
