President Triet made the statement while visiting and extending New Year greetings to PetroVietnam’s staff on February 1.

According to a report from Tran Ngoc Canh, director of PetroVietnam, the group earned a revenue of VND213,400 billion in 2007 (the highest level so far), making up one-fifth of the country’s GDP and contributing VND85,950 billion to the state budget (equivalent to one-third of total budget collections).

President Triet emphasised that the Party, the State and people highlighted the important role and position of PetroVietnam as well as its contribution to the national economy. The oil and gas industry is a spearhead economic sector, which has made a great contribution to the country’s GDP, and all PetroVietnam staff can be proud of their contribution, he added. 

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year festival, President Triet expressed hope that the group will develop constantly and sustainably, prepare human resources, quickly become a powerful group on a par with other global giants.
