Deputies of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on September 19 discussed bills on prevention and control of contagious diseases and family violence, and agreed that the two bills are eligible for debates and approval at the upcoming NA session.

After being revised, the bill on prevention and control of contagious diseases identifies the time when the state of emergency on epidemics is released, prevention of contagious diseases, the responsibility of relevant agencies and people when an epidemic breaks out, and special regulations on medical isolations and restrictions of travel from and to affected areas.

However, the NA Standing Committee said the bill should make clear the responsibility of relevant agencies in using vaccines and medical bio-products, international cooperation in epidemic prevention and information dissemination.

NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien and NA Legal Committee Nguyen Van Thuan agreed with the bill which says individuals and organisations involved in producing, trading, managing and using vaccines and medical bio-products must take responsibility in case incidents occur. They said the regulation aims to raise the responsibility of these individuals and organisations to ensure people’s health and safety.

Debating the bill on prevention and control of family violence, legislators asked the law drafting board to make clear family violence behaviours and the responsibility of the State management agencies on prevention and control of family violence. They said the approval of the bill at the upcoming NA session will help Vietnam effectively implement the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination (CEDAW) which Vietnam has signed with the United Nations.
