FM continues meeting diplomats at AMM46

(VOV) - On July 1, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh continued to have bilateral talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM-46) in Brunei’s capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.

At a reception for his Singaporean counterpart K. Shanmugam, Minh congratulated Singapore on the success of the 12th Shangri-La Dialogue. Shanmugam highly valued Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s attendance and his key-note speech at the event.

The Singaporean FM said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will visit Vietnam in September, and the two countries will sign a statement on the establishment of a Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership on the occasion.

The two ministers agreed that besides the sound political relations, both countries need to continue maintaining their successful collaboration in economics, trade and investment.

Meeting with Malaysian FM Anifah Aman, Minister Minh affirmed that Vietnam always wants to strengthen the friendship and all-round cooperation with Malaysia.

The two sides expressed their delight at their effective cooperation in economics, trade and investment, and hope to soon organise the fifth meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

Minh expressed his confidence that the Malaysian Government will continue improving overseas Vietnamese labourers’ working conditions so that they can contribute more to the two countries’ economic development.

Talking to Timor Leste’s Foreign Minister Jose Lui Guterres, Minh congratulated the country on its recent achievements, especially in economics.

The two ministers said they hope to enhance bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields including oil and gas, agriculture, tourism, information technology and telecommunications.

Receiving Bangladeshi FM Dipu Moni, Minh hailed the country’s socio-economic achievements and its efforts to improve people’s living standards and boost external relations over the years.

The two FMs held that Bangladesh and Vietnam should promote high-ranking delegation exchange and find solutions to fully tap each country’s potential.

FM Moni said his country wants to become ASEAN’s full dialogue partner and join regional cooperation and linkage mechanisms such as the East – West Economic Corridor and the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC).

At a meeting with Mongolia’s FM Luvsanvandan Bold, Minh said the Mongolian President’s visit to Vietnam scheduled for later this year will represent a significant landmark in bilateral ties.

The two diplomats concurred to take practical measures to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Mongolia diplomatic ties and expand development cooperation for each country’s mutual benefit.

At their meeting, FM Minh and his Australian counterpart Bob Carr expressed their pleasure at the constant development of Vietnam-Australia comprehensive partnership, especially when the two countries have launched diverse activities to mark the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

They said the two sides need to continue delegation exchanges to consolidate mutual trust and understanding and increase cooperation in the areas of Australia’s strength such as science-technology and education and training.

Meeting with Catherine Ashton, who is Vice-President of the European Commission and the EU’s first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Minh and the EU official noted with satisfaction over the positive developments in Vietnam-EU relations, especially since the two sides signed the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) in June last year.

Minh asked the EU and its member countries to speed up the approval process for the PCA to become effective as soon as possible.
