France will provide an additional 80.5 million Euros in non-refundable aid for an existing project to build an urban railway line connecting Nhon on the western outskirts of Hanoi to the municipal railway station in downtown Hanoi.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc and Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) Alain Henri in Hanoi on November 23.

The biggest French-funded project in Vietnam aims to modernize Hanoi’s public traffic system to deal with its traffic overload.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment said the 12.5km section is the first urban railway section in the city with a total investment of 458 million Euros.

France is now a big donor for Vietnam, pledging a total of 1.5 billion Euros, with AFD as one of its major channels.
