Vietnam’s youngest conductor ever Nguyen Anh Son, aged 25, will make his homeland debut next month by conducting the HCM City Ballet Symphony and Orchestra in a performance of Fantasia Utyos by Russian composer Sergy Rachmaninov.

One of the sole 10 Vietnamese conductors, Anh Son has just graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Russia, where he studied from 2001-2006 under the guidance of Russian professor Igor Dronov.

The young man led the Russian Conservatoire’s symphony orchestra to perform an extract of the opera Evegeni Onegin in March this year.

Before moving to Russia for learning conducting, he had graduated with secondary honours from the HCM City Conservatoire of Music.

Anh Son wishes to further study music, which is necessary to a professional conductor. But he says he will continue to conduct the symphony orchestra for a few more years to gain more experience.
