Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has urged investors and contractors to speed up progress on three key transportation projects in order to ensure their completion by the end of 2014.

The projects include Nhat Tan Bridge and its link roads, the construction of the road connecting Noi Bai International Airport to Nhat Tan Bridge, and the construction of Noi Bai airport’s Terminal 2.

Following an inspection of these projects on February 18, Hai said all were about 20 months behind schedule due to site clearance challenges. Hai asked the Ministry of Transport to guide investors and contractors to coordinate plans to complete the three projects at the same time.

Currently, the first two construction projects are slated for completion by September 2014, while Noi Bai Airport’s T2 terminal is projected to be completed by December 2014.

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong said that the projects are under control, with only the road linking Nhat Tan Bridge to Noi Bai Airport slowed due to ongoing site clearance and resettlement issues.

The ministry could guarantee that the work is on schedule if the city completes this process by the end of this May at the latest, Truong said.

The general director of the project management board, Nguyen Ngoc Canh, said that site clearance in the residential area south of Nhat Tan Bridge and the removal of electrical lines in Vinh Ngoc Ward should be completed soon.

However, the first and second projects also currently lacked about US$67.2 million in order to progress on schedule. Hanoi City has put up about US$4.8 million so far.

The T2 terminal project will also require another US$33.2 million for site clearance and resettlement, but has received only US$9 million.
