Palestinian militants on Saturday fired a rocket from Gaza into the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon without causing any damages or injuries, said an Israeli military spokesman.

Two more rockets were fired into southern Israel from Gaza on Sunday morning, causing neither damage nor injuries, according to the Israeli military.

Israeli forces and Gaza militants are supposed to refrain from attacking each other under a fragile cease-fire, which has been breached several times, making diplomatic efforts to build a lasting agreement difficult.

Palestinian militants have fired rockets sporadically toward Israel and killed one soldier on Tuesday. Israel has conducted retaliatory strikes and pounded border tunnels it says Hamas has used to smuggle weapons from Egypt.

On Saturday, Jordan's King Abdullah II called for the immediate resumption of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks after meeting with President Barack Obama's Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, in Amman.

On the same day, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Israel for arresting leading Hamas parliamentarians.  In an interview with the Washington Post, the PM described the West Bank and Gaza Strip as "an open-air prison".
