Archaeologists from the Hanoi National University have recently found a number of artifacts of the Sa Huynh culture believed to date back 3,000 years.

The excavation made at the Go Mieu archaeological site in Tien Ha commune, Tien Phuoc district, central Quang Nam province brought to light a cylinder-shaped jar tomb with the lid containing a number of terra cotta bowls and pots and ornamentals made of glass and agate.

The Sa Huynh culture had flourished in central and southern Vietnam between 1000 BC and 200 AD. The culture boasts a unique practice that the dead was cremated and buried in a jar tomb. The culture is also renowned for its unique ear ornaments featuring two-headed animals.

A museum featuring the pre-historic Sa Huynh culture is located in the ancient city of Hoi An in central Quang Nam province. It showcases terra cotta works of the culture found at archaeological sites.
