The Hue Festival closed on June 13.

The events included the Imperial Night, the voyage to reclaim the country’s land and the legends of the Huong (Perfume) River, in addition to Russian ballets, Indian ritual dances, and many performances from the Caribbean and many other parts of the world.

Ngo Hoa, the vice chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Province People’s Committee, said that the festival was a great success, and had seen traditional and modern themes blend very well with each other.

This year performers from nearly 30 countries brought hundreds of unique shows to the festival. Over 6,500 artists, actors and actresses, attended the event with many community and fringe activities also taking place.

More than 500 journalists from 80 media agencies were present at the event, and the city played host to roughly 120,400 domestic and 28,600 foreign tourists.

Hoa expressed his gratitude to the foreign embassies and artists who took part in the event. He also gave a special thanks to the French performers who have attended the Hue Festival since the first event.

The closing ceremony on June 13 was highlighted by a song to the poetic beauty of the Huong River and a friendly and peaceful Vietnam. Garlands of flowers, coloured lanterns and fireworks said a farewell until the next festival in 2012.
