The National Assembly Committee for Science, Technology and Environment on March 21 agreed with the Government’s proposal to build a new NA House under the Ba Dinh National Political Centre project where the former Ba Dinh Square witnessed historical landmarks in the cause of national liberation, construction and defence.

The committee said it had selected lot D in the project covering 5.7ha, which is hemmed in by Hoang Van Thu, Doc Lap, Bac Son and Hoang Dieu streets.

Other options include lots H6, H7 and A7 in the project, an area in the southern part of the ancient Thang Long Citadel, an area in the south-western part of Hanoi and a new Tay Ho Urban Area.

According to the committee, lot D has more advantages than other lots as technical infrastructure facilities and surrounding environmental and architectural projects in the area have been completed, existing construction projects have been moved to other places and archeological appraisal has been made in the initial period.

Under the Government’s proposal, the house will be built on the premises of Ba Dinh Conference Hall and be extended to Zone C and D of the nearby Thang Long Citadel Relic. Artifacts of the relic’s Zone C and D will be kept in museums to ensure the construction tempo of the project. Part of the relic could remain in tact if it does not affect construction work.

The house will be inaugurated in 2010 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi.
