A pro-development journalism network, initiated by ActionAid International, was launched in Vietnam on April 14.

The system involves volunteer journalists who wish to contribute to the national cause of poverty alleviation and improvement of living conditions well as to raise the awareness of people from all walks of life about development issues facing the country.

According to an ActionAid official, the system offers journalists a venue to share their experience and information about development issues. The group is expected to uphold long-term relations with non-governmental organisations, legislative bodies and local and international experts to help those who are negatively affected by socio-economic development process.

ActionAid highlighted the crucial role of journalists for the long-term, sustainable effectiveness of its future projects to aid Vietnamese poverty-stricken areas, mostly relating to poverty eradication, gender equality, HIV/AIDS prevention, and improvement of local governance.
