Russian astronaut welcomed in Hanoi

(VOV) - On July 23, Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, welcomed Russian astronaut Viktor Vasilyevich Gorbatko, who, together with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Tuan, made a successful flight into space 35 years ago.

Tuan highlighted the space flight as a historical event, which is  closely tied  to the traditional amity and special cooperation between Vietnam and Russia for more than half century.

The Vietnamese Party, State and people always bear in mind the valuable support of the Soviet Union in the past, and Russia today, especically  during the past struggles for national independence and in the current construction and development process, Tuan said.

He expressed his hope that stronger bilateral cooperation in aviation and space would deliver many practical benefits.
