A total of 500 Vietnamese students will receive visas to study in Canada by the end of 2008, an increase of 90 percent as compared to 2007, according to the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam is one of 25 countries with the largest number of students studying in Canada.

The Canadian Government has cooperated with the Canadian Education Centre (CEC) Network since 2007 to launch a campaign in Vietnam to advertise their country’s educational opportunities.

The campaign aims to build a positive image of education in Canada, streamline the visa process and encourage more Vietnamese students to choose Canada as their destination to study abroad.

The number of Vietnamese students to study in Canada has doubled in the past 18 months and the number of applications for visa has increased continuously, according to Bill Johnston, head of Canadian Consulate General in HCM City.

Several activities will be held in Vietnam during the autumn of this year to help students and their families better understand the real life in Canada, including the Canadian university education forum on October 25 at 40 Cat Linh, Hanoi and on October 26 at 17 Le Duan avenue, District 1 in HCM City, and annual Canadian Education Fairs in Hanoi on November 6 and in HCM City on November 8.
