The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Corporation is working out a project to buy an additional 200MW of electricity from China's Yunnan province for northern Thai Nguyen province.

Under the project, which will be carried out from 2007-2010, the purchased electricity is scheduled to be transferred via a 500-km 220kV transmission line, which runs through the Thanh Thuy border gate in Ha Giang province.

EVN had previously signed contracts to buy 160MW of electricity from China to supply the  northern provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang.
