Telecentre and E-care, two new information technology (IT) training centres, will be established in Ho Chi Minh City under a Taiwanese project on assisting local businesses in IT application.

To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding was clinched recently between the E-commerce Department under the Trade Ministry, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Bureau.

The IT establishments will play a critical role in strengthening the IT competence of Vietnamese businesses to help enhance their competitive edge during the country's integration into the global economy, said VCCI Chairman Vu Tien Loc. He added that the move will help the country bridge its digital gap with other countries.

In 2006, the E-care centre will also expand IT training for people from all walks of life, with priority given to the elderly, women, children and disabled people.
