Agencies, organisations, businesses and localities across the country are actively giving more relief to victims of Typhoon Xangsane.

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin (VAVA) provided VND120 million for families of AO victims affected by the typhoon in Da Nang city and Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) chapters in the Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang and Dong Thap on October 4 raised VND170 million and VND400 million, respectively, to support Yyphoon Xangsane victims.


The Supreme People's Procuracy contributed VND30 million through the VFF for the same purpose.


The northern mountainous province of Yen Bai sent VND200 million as relief aid to Da Nang city, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Quang Tri provinces.


Many other agencies, units, organisations and individuals also joined hands to help victims by contributing nearly VND1.9 trillion to the Tam Long Vang (Golden Heart) Fund launched by the Vietnam General Federation of Labour.


*** Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has decided to earmark an additional VND7 billion from the State budget to assist central Quang Tri province to overcome the aftermath of Typhoon Xangsane. Earlier, the province received VND3 billion from the government's aid package of VND50 billion to Xangsane-hit central provinces.


In response to a campaign launched nationwide to help typhoon victims, 100 volunteers who are doctors, nurses and construction and electricity engineers from HCM City went to Da Nang, Quang Nam, Thua Thien-Hue and Kon Tum provinces on October 3.


By October 3, the HCM City Fatherland Front received more than VND4.2 billion and almost 6 tonnes of goods donated by the city's people to help typhoon victims.


Meanwhile, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan and Tay Ninh provinces have raised almost VND2 billion in total, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, more than VND80 million, and agencies under the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, almost VND100 million. In the meantime, the Thanh Nien (Young People), Tien Phong (Vanguard), Thieu Nien Tien Phong (Young Pioneers), Sinh Vien (Student) and Nhi Dong (Children) newspapers have raised over VND800 million in total.


According to the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, by 5 pm of October 3, Typhoon Xangsane had killed 42 local people, left seven missing and injured 520 others.
