Hanoians have responded positively to the ‘gratitude drop of blood’ campaign which coincided with Revolutionary Martyrs Day (July 27).

The campaign aims to enroll 1,000 blood donors and collect more than 500 units of blood to show gratitude to the previous generations who shed their blood for the country’s independence and freedom.

Three hundred volunteers from the Hanoi Blood Donation Youth Association went along streets in residential areas of the capital to inform people about the blood drive and persuade them to take part.

In just two days (July 21-22), more than 300 staff members from the National Institute for Haematology and Blood Transfusion and relatives of patients being treated there enrolled to give blood.

On July 24, military hero Le Ma Luong, army painter Le Duy Ung, music composer Huy Thuc and several popular singers set an example and registered to give blood.
