NZ, Vietnam hold first defence dialogue

(VOV) -On November 5, Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and New Zealand Deputy Secretary of Defence in charge of Policy and Planning Tony Lynch co-chaired the first Defence Dialogue between the two nations in Hanoi.

Both sides praised positive developments in the bilateral defence collaboration over the past year, especially since Vietnam and New Zealand signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation in 2013.

Vinh and the NZ defence official concurred to continue intensifying all-level exchange visits and maintaining dialogue and consultation mechanisms.

They agreed offer mutual support at multilateral forums like the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus as a contribution to ensuring regional and global peace and stability.

Vinh said his nation wants New Zealand to provide English language teaching for military officers as well as share peace-keeping experience.
