Can Tho city in the Mekong Delta plans to invest VND80 trillion in developing its infrastructure aimed at making it the most modern city in the region.

As planned, Can Tho will build an urban-industry-service area along the Hau river, an urban and hi-tech area to the north of the O Mon river and a heavy industrial area to the south of the same river.

To the southeastern of the Hau river, there will be an urban area and Cai Rang port, while an eco-tourism area will be developed to the southwest of the river.

The city will also build six residential areas covering a total of 5,800 ha for 690,000 people and develop an international water transport system linking the Hau river to the Cai San, Can Tho, O Mon and Thot Not rivers while Tra Noc airport will be upgraded to be an international terminal.

Since it became a centrally run city in 2004, Can Tho has been set on becoming a national industrial hub before 2020.
