Counterterrorism bill approved

(VOV) - The National Assembly passed a counterterrorism bill at its ongoing session in Hanoi on June 12 with 89.76% of votes in favour.

The law, which has 8 chapters and 51 articles, clarifies terrorist acts and financing, as well as the responsibility of individuals and organisations in terrorism prevention and control.

It regulates that the Government will establish a national steering committee on counterterrorism, and provincial-level steering boards and task forces will be established under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defence.

The law stipulates that terrorist prevention and control is the responsibility of every State agency, organisation and individual citizen.

International organisations and foreigners residing and working in Vietnam are required to take part in counterterrorism as per this law and other relevant laws.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organisations will encourage citizens to strictly abide by and supervise the implementation of the law.

The law will help Vietnam ensure national security, maintain social order and safety, and promote international cooperation in combating this crime.
