Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has encouraged cities and provinces to actively respond to the on-going campaign of “Saying No to negative effects and the pursuit of overachievements in education” with the aim of creating a healthy learning environment for teachers and students.

“Schools should launch more exemplary role model movements, in which teachers set bright examples to students,” said Mr Manh while attending a new school year ceremony at Hai Hau A high school in the northern province of Nam Dinh on September 4.

He asked Party organisations and administrations at all levels to create favourable conditions for the education sector to fulfil its tasks set for the 2008-2009 academic year.

“The overall task of the sector is to increase people’s knowledge, improve the quality of human resources and develop talent to meet the country’s requirements for national industrialisation and modernisation as well as international integration,” said Mr Manh.

Nam Dinh has paid special attention to education development over the past years. It has been listed among the top five localities, which have the high rate of graduation from high schools. In the 2007-08 academic year, it ranked first with 94 percent of high-school graduates.

While working with the provincial Party Committee, Mr Manh asked the province to boost economic restructuring, with a focus on developing industries, services and human resources. He also asked Nam Dinh to increase investment in agricultural production and apply scientific and technological advances to farming and farm product processing.

Nam Dinh has achieved an annual GDP growth rate of 11 percent for the past consecutive years.
