The Party and State will create favourable conditions for State-run corporations like Song Da to surmount difficulties and develop more efficiently, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

While visiting the Song Da Corporation in Hanoi on February 7, Mr Triet praised the corporation for its achievements and contributions to national development over the past half a century. He noted that Song Da is a leading civil engineering and construction corporation in Vietnam which has built many key national projects such as Thac Ba, Hoa Binh and Yaly hydro-electric power plants, Bai Bang paper mill, But Son cement plant, National Highway No1A and the Hai Van Tunnel.

During the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, the corporation has rapidly integrated into the market economy. From its beginning as a civil engineering and construction corporation, it has established more than 70 affiliates, operating in the electricity, steel, cement, housing and property industries. It is preparing to operate as an economic group.

Mr Triet lauded the corporation’s strategy for training specialists, engineers and workers which now number more than 30,000. Its internationally qualified specialists and engineers have undertaken many key projects in Vietnam and abroad.

He analysed difficulties facing the country in 2009 and said that State corporations will play an important role in generating jobs and maintaining social stability.

“State Corporations, like Song Da, should make further contributions to the process of national industrialisation and modernisation,” said Mr Triet.

The same day, he visited officials and workers of the Song Da Urban&Industrial Zone Development and Investment joint Stock Company (SUDICO) – an affiliate of the Song Sa Corporation – and planted a tree at My Dinh Urban Area in Hanoi’s Me Tri commune.
