Representatives from the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) Consulate General and association of RoK people in Ho Chi Minh City on July 13 met and offered condolences to the family of Thach Thi Hoang Ngoc, who was stabbed to death by her husband.

The 20-year-old Ngoc from the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho was killed by her allegedly mentally ill husband, 47-year-old Jang, in the southern port city of Busan on July 7, just six days after she arrived in the RoK.

Jang was arrested by local police a day later. The murder has aroused public opinion both in the RoK and Vietnam.

The association handed over US$2,000, air tickets and passports to the victim’s parents, Thach Sang and Truong Thi Ut, to fly to the RoK on the same day to conduct related procedures, including with local police inquiring into the death, cremating the victim’s body and bringing her ashes to Vietnam.

Hwang Ui Hoon, chairman of the association, condemned the inhuman act of Jang, adding that Jang will be strictly punished by the RoK’s law enforcement agencies for the murder.
