State President Nguyen Minh Triet has urged leaders of Vinh Long province to pay more attention to promoting agricultural and rural development and improving living conditions for local people.

During a working visit to the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long on August 22, State President Triet called on the Vinh Tien Garments Company, Hung Vuong Ltd Company and Hoa Phu Industrial Zone and expressed his delight at their steady growth.

Last year, Vinh Long’s industrial production value rose by 40 percent, ranking second in the Mekong Delta region, after Tien Giang. However, Vinh Long is still an agricultural province with its agricultural proportion currently accounting for 54 percent, more than three times than industry and services. Therefore, Vinh Long should mobilize all sources available to develop industry, accelerate administrative reform and prepare human resources and infrastructure for investors, Mr Triet said.

Regarding juridical reform, Mr Triet highly valued the province’s efforts to have no unjust rulings by the court over the past three years.

On the occasion, President Triet offered incenses at the monuments to the late chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung and the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet.
