Voters from six remote border communes in Muong Te district of northern Lai Chau province went to the polls on May 17 to elect deputies to the 12thNational Assembly, three days earlier than the rest of the country.

The communes were Ca Lang, Mu Ca, Ta Tong, Pa Ve Su, Pa U and Muong Mo. According to the district’s Election Committee, the communes are home to more than 9,000 voters and it takes two days for them to travel from hamlets to communal centres. 


The same day, voters from 24 mountainous and island communes in the central province of Quang Nam also cast ballots. By 5 pm, 100 percent of voters in the 24 communes had gone to the polls, said the provincial Election Committee. 


Meanwhile, ethic minority voters from five mountainous communes in central Quang Binh province fulfilled their duties on May 16. By 5 p.m. the same day, polling stations in the five communes of Truong Xuan and Truong Son of Quang Ninh district and Kim Thuy, Ngan Thuy and Lam Thuy in Le Thuy district reported that 98 percent of voters had cast their ballots.
